Hapkido is a Korean martial art practiced all over the world. Characterized by joint locks, throws, punches, dynamic kicks and techniques with weapons, it is unique among Korean martial arts in its emphasis on deflecting an opponent’s attacks instead of forceful blocking.

Hapkido is considered a “soft” style in the martial arts, as opposed to the “hard” that practice the use of force against force, making the result in a simple matter of size and strength. The student of Hapkido diverts or peacefully removes the energy flow of the attacker; in order to exert that small force the student requires (Hapki).

Hapkido covers a wide range of realistic situations and attacks. You will learn how to prevent your attacker from hurting you, you will learn to take advantage of you attacker’s weak points and you will learn how to take control of the situation.

Hapkido gives the student a solid base in different forms of defense, and roots the strategy of that defense in dynamic, physic and natural principles. These give the student a solid framework on which to develop their skills so that they are not caught off-guard when in real defense situations.

It is designed to allow a martial artist to rapidly subdue an opponent and render any attacker completely incapable of causing harm. Since Hapkido delivers total control over a physical confrontation and emphasizes precision over brute strength, the hapkidoist can localize any damage dealt to an opponent and avoid creating unintended injury.

For this reason, it is very popular among private security and law enforcement agents throughout the world. But, make no mistake. Hapkido also enables the student to leverage extremely powerful and even deadly force if absolutely necessary, such as in a life-or-death confrontation. The art’s primary emphasis is on practical self-defense.

Hapkido is a martial art, not a sport. The aim of Hapkido is mastery of yourself, not others.

Once you learn Hapkido you will be able to defend yourself in almost any situation. Hapkido will help you develop strength, flexibility, will power, self-discipline and confidence that will greatly enhance the quality of your life.
